It wasn’t the longest of looks as right-hander Jack Ryan (2026, Cincinnati, Ohio) went just 3 innings and though he didn’t have his sharpest command (4 walks), you can’t help but come away impressed with what he showed on the mound and the long term upside the young Ohio native possesses. More than looking the part with an athletic 6-foot, 155-pound, long-armed frame, Ryan works exclusively out of the stretch and showed perhaps the quickest arm of the day day, staying online nicely through the back with some acceleration working out front. 



The fastball sat in the 82-84 mph range early on, bumping 85 mph and while the velocity more than stands out at a 13u event, the occasional heavy and late life to the arm side he’s able to generate stands out just as much. Ryan generates the velocity with less effort than one would expect given the age level and while he can get out of sync at times with his delivery, when everything is on he’s able to power the ball downhill from his higher three-quarters, eliciting some weak contact off of the barrel. Along with the heater, Ryan spun a couple sharp breaking balls up into the mid-70s with tight rotation, maintaining his arm speed well on the pitch while selling the offering. As we said at the top of the write up, it wasn’t the longest of looks but it was certainly an eye opening one and Ryan is a name you’ll be certain to hear from moving forward.
