This weekend functioned as either a sign of hard work paying off or a wake up call to most teams in major conferences as the results of the action have shaken up conference standings. With this week’s Top 25, Tennessee stays at No. 1, which is no shock, but Miami climbs to No. 2 following their home sweep of previous No. 2 Virginia, who drops to No. 8. Oklahoma State, Notre Dame, Oregon State, and Texas Tech follow at Nos. 2-6 while Arkansas also falls to No. 9 after the series loss against Florida.

After No. 9 there’s a line of separation with the teams being able to be lined up in many different orders. Gonzaga is at No. 10 while Southern Miss, Louisville, and UCLA follow at Nos. 11-13. Dropping out this week were Texas State, who went 1-3 on the weekend, and Florida State, who lost an ACC series to Georgia Tech and fell to 19-12 on the season. Vanderbilt and Ole Miss hung on at Nos. 24 and 25, respectively, but this is the proverbial wake up call to those traditional powerhouse programs that they have to start winning series matchups if they want to be near the top of the rankings.

Newcomers this week were two teams: Auburn at No. 19 and Grand Canyon at No. 23. The Tigers, won another SEC weekend series, this time taking 2-of-3 from Vanderbilt, while the ‘Lopes have won six in a row and went 5-0 on the week, sweeping Dixie State and taking both midweek games from Texas Tech. Grand Canyon now sits comfortably atop the WAC with a 13-2 conference record, while Auburn is just one game back of Arkansas in a three-way tie for second in the SEC West.
