Matthew Heyl (2023, Clermont, Fla.) started the tournament off with a bang for Power Baseball 2023 Marucci. The 6-foot, 160-pound southpaw was perfect through three, striking out eight of the nine batters he faced. Heyl’s fastball settled in the 86-90 mph range and featured late arm-side run. Heyl worked his breaking ball in and out of the strike zone and used it as an out pitch as well as a get-me-over strike when needed. His delivery featured an extra high leg kick where he kicks a straight leg up past his mid-section and circles it back towards his body before driving down the mound. He has a long, stabbing arm action in the back and lands with a shortened stride. Heyl repeated his unique delivery quite well and had no problem pounding the strike zone. An uncommitted prospect to keep an eye on.
