FORT MYERS, Fla. -- With a roster full of championship pedigree, Clowns National is confident in their experience to compete for the 18u BCS National Championship.

“We have four guys on this ball club that won state titles this year here in Florida,” Clowns Head Coach David Knight said postgame. “We’ve got guys that are champions and others that went deep into their regionals, so we’ve got a mature group that doesn’t back down from anything.”

After defeating Victus Elite FL 17U 5-3, Clowns finished pool play 3-0 to cement themselves into the gold bracket and an opportunity to play for a National Championship.

David Bosque received the start on the mound against Victus and was dialed in. The uncommitted 2023 right-hander dealt 3 1⁄3 innings, allowing just two hits while giving up just one run.

Bosque saw most of his success come from his mid-80s fastball, where he struck out five of his seven on the day, and complemented it with a low-70s curveball.

Wake Forest commit Marek Houston got the Clowns on the board first with an RBI single in the bottom of the opening frame.

His club followed that up with a two-run second inning, which included an RBI single from Giovany Adames that drove in Jalen Hairston, who had walked in his at-bat and then stole second to put himself in scoring position.

But Victus did not go down without a fight, notching three runs in the top of the fourth to tie things up.

Left-hander Noah Lucia came in to relieve Bosque in the middle of the inning and was very effective, not allowing a hit and punching out four over his 2 2⁄3 innings on the mound.

“Two different looks,” Knight said on what made his two pitchers so dominant. “You got a righty coming in and then you got [Lucia] coming in on the left side that’s really soft and got a big breaking ball. You give that variation of looks, it's tough for a team to catch up on that.”

With the game still tied in the bottom of the fifth, Elias Machado and Nick Monile kicked things off with back-to-back walks and put themselves in scoring position after a fielder’s choice.

After another walk from Jesus Mosegue, Eddie Boe Rodriguez stepped to bat with the bases loaded and one out and didn’t waste any time, lining a single up the middle from the first pitch he saw to drive in Machado and Monile.

Those runs proved to be just enough for his club to pull out the 5-3 victory and kick off a 3-0 start to their BCS National Championship run.

The team realizes there are a lot of great ball club’s here, but they believe they are right there with them all.

“We have a lot of respect for the teams in this tournament, you’ve got a lot of really good established programs, but we feel that we’re pretty good too,” Knight said postgame.
