17u WWBA North Scout Notes: Days 1-2

Will Whelan (2023, Circle Pines, Minn.) was dominant for Complete Game 17u in his pool play start on Thursday morning. The Minnesota commit was his usual self on the mound, going 4 1/3 innings pitched racking up 10 strikeouts while only allowing two hits. The left-handed pitcher has high pitch ability traits with above average command of his 3-pitch mix. His fastball sat 81-84 for a majority of the start, reaching as high as 86 MPH early on. The fastball has some heavy running action that regularly sawed off LHHs, and created cap shots for RHHs. I think with some more physical development and added strength to the frame will only boost Whelan’s stock before he arrives on campus next year.
