Cason Engert (2023, Cumming, Ga.) was his usual dominant self through his three one-hit innings in the quarterfinals on Sunday morning. The East Tennessee State commit showed an advanced two pitch mix throughout the outing, leading to four strikeouts in the appearance. The velocity was down just a tick from summer outings, where we saw him sitting in the low-90s and topping out at 94 mph but the stuff was as lively as ever. The fastball sat in the upper-80s, living right around 87 mph and topping at 89 mph countless times in the early going with ride and carry out of the hand. A nasty breaking ball with good spin metrics and feel to spin in and out of the zone was truly impressive. He got some ugly whiffs on the curveball because of the ability to tunnel both pitches at an elite level. With countless eyes on him on Sunday, he has continued to cement himself as one of the top arms in the state.
