College Top 25: April 10

Mother Nature was not on her best behavior this past weekend and many marquee series were significantly affected or even shortened to just two games. The series that captured most of the headlines saw No. 1 LSU (26-5) head east to Columbia, where they split the two-game set with now No. 5 South Carolina (28-4). It looked like a Gamecock sweep was imminent when they thumped the Tigers in Game 1 but surrendered a 5-run lead with only 6 outs to go and settled for the split. Both teams were without some key contributors and still showed they are national title contenders. In Knoxville, the No. 2 Florida Gators (27-6) dominated No.12 Tennessee (22-10) in every aspect the first two games before the Vols bats came alive to salvage Game 3. Holding steady at No. 3, Wake Forest (28-4) only got two games in on the weekend, sweeping a double header from NC State. Keeping their spot at No. 4 this week, Vanderbilt (26-6) did end their SEC win streak at 10 games but still won the series at Mizzou.

There were some big movers this week as it seems like clean weeks are harder and harder to come by. Stanford (21-7) jumps 4 spots to No. 8 with their road sweep of Cal and fellow Pac-12 member UCLA (19-8-1) is up 5 places to No. 14 after their three wins on the week. No. 9 ECU (24-8) hops back into the top-10 with their (4-0) week, beating NC State in the midweek before UCF came to town. Louisville (24-7) made a huge statement by sweeping Boston College in ACC play and are now No. 10 in the poll while the Eagles (21-9) land at No. 15. Campbell (24-6) didn’t have a great week and dip a bit to No. 16, while Big-12 members Texas Tech (22-10) and Oklahoma State (23-10) drop to No. 17 and No. 19 respectively.



We have been watching Dallas Baptist (23-9) for a while now and enter the poll at No. 21 after their (4-0) week. Southern Cal (20-10-1) has been one of the hottest teams in the country, are (9-3) in Pac-12 play, and swept non-conference opponent San Diego State on the weekend. Indiana (22-10) continues to surge as they took 2 of 3 from Iowa, debut in the poll at No. 24 and sit atop the Big-10 standings at (7-2). Rounding out the Top.25, the Texas Longhorns (23-10) return to the poll at No. 25 after their (3-1) week and are in first place in the Big-12 at this point.
