Stroman Shows Out

Jayden Stroman, brother to Chicago Cub Marcus Stroman, is a three-time PG Select Festival Player and can be found this week at the East Cobb Baseball Complex in Marietta, Georgia, for the 16U WWBA National Championship.

Stroman and the FTB / TBT Phillies were one of 468 teams invited to East Cobb this week and last to compete for the coveted 16U tournament title.

On July 6, the Phillies started off strong with a 9-1 win over the Titans Baseball 16U Blue team. In Stroman’s first at-bat of the game, he stepped up to the plate in the bottom of the first and drilled a shot over the fence for a two-run homer, scoring teammate Jackson Roper.

“Priority one is to hit the first pitch,” Stroman said about his mentality at the plate. “You never want to get down in a two-strike count, especially when you’re facing the good guys. They're really effective once you get to two strikes.”

The No.6-ranked player in the class of 2025 will now be traveling from New York to Bradenton, Florida, to attend IMG Academy in the fall. Prior to IMG, you could find Stroman playing for the Stony Brook Bears and attending The Stony Brook School in New York, on the North Shore of Long Island.

“Stony Brook was a smaller scale version (of IMG),” Stroman said. “Really good team up there though. Really loved those guys and they had the academics.”

Now headed to IMG with some of the top players from around the country, like Dean Moss and Sean Gamble, Stroman is excited for the competitive challenge that playing for a program like IMG will bring.

“Definitely, a little bit of a change, but you get to go out there and compete with the best of the best, and that's really the only way you get better,” Stroman said about IMG. “My dad and [Marcus] are always telling me iron sharpens iron.”

Following his high school career at IMG, the middle infielder will be headed to Durham, North Carolina, to join the Duke Blue Devils program in the spring of 2026.

“This year they went to the [NCAA] Sweet 16 which was a really huge accomplishment for the program, and we got a couple of great guys coming in,” Stroman said when asked about his decision to commit to Duke. “On top of that, you also have the classroom. Not many people can say that they graduated from Duke and that's also a huge advantage, say if baseball doesn't work out.”

Stroman and the Phillies now await their consolation game at the WWBA against the BPA Gold and are then set to travel to Fort Myers, Florida, on Jul 22 for the 16U BCS National Championship.
