CBU 2025 Scout Team 'Clicking' at 16U BCS

Posting a 23-5 record on the year, CBU 2025 Scout Team Big Kat has cemented itself as one of the best teams in the nation. 

And currently sitting 3-0 at the 16U BCS National Championship in its final tournament of the summer, the No. 26 team in the nation may have saved its best baseball for last. 



“We're playing well, everything's kind of clicking on all cylinders for us,” CBU coach Tyler Ross said. “The message is really stay there and keep competing. One game at a time is always a big message that we have, that's how you just got to keep chipping away and that's what led us to our good start.

“We've had everything working. We have a really good defense and we have pitchers who throw strikes and compete and when our lineup clicks one through 10 I think we're one of the better lineups anywhere and that’s what we’ve seen.”

The latter of those three came on Sunday over Angels 16U Red in 6-1 fashion, with each of those aforementioned areas on full display throughout. 

Left-handed pitcher Enzo Gurgel received the start for CBU, striking out three and allowing just four hits over 54 pitches. Right-handed Carson Krueger came on for relief in the bottom fourth, striking out the side with a mix of a mid-80’s fastball and a low-70’s breaking ball, before Brady Hoar followed suit to close things out. 

“They've all been really solid late guys for us, especially [Hoar],” Ross said. “Brady's been in tons and tons of clutch situations, [Krueger] as well. I think the success you get is building confidence behind the young guys and telling them to trust their defense is always a huge part.”

The CBU offense got rolling right away with Jordan Rich leading things off with a standup double and Ray Yero driving him in the next at-bat. After adding another run in the top of the second, both teams went scoreless over the next three innings until Landon Ide cleared the bases with a two-out double in the sixth. 

Now entering its final two games of pool play with a +28 run differential, CBU is focused on what’s gotten them here in the first place - attacking one pitch and one at-bat at a time. 

“It's like having an engine in a NASCAR race, everything's working perfectly,” Ross said. “The tires, the driver, everything's going well, and that's what we have. When we’re rolling good, normally it's just focusing in the moment and living in that moment is a huge message and key to success for us.”
