Hernandez took a trip down to Irvine, California this weekend from his hometown in Chino to participate in the 17U Ultimate Baseball Championship.

In his day one start, the Vanderbilt commit pitched five innings of work, allowing one hit while collecting eight strikeouts, ending with a 0.00 ERA on the day. In the same event last year he threw six innings, allowed two hits and punched out 11, also concluding with an 0.00 ERA. And if the pitching wasn't enough, he finished with a .467 average as well in 15 at-bats. He ended the 2023 UBC  All Tournament Team honors for pitching and hitting and ultimately earned the MVPitcher award.

Perfect Game scout Steve Fiorindo was on hand to take in Hernandez's latest gem and had this to say in the following day's scout notes:

"The top pitching prospect in the country flipped it on cruise control in this look and got plenty of offensive support from his BPA mates in run rule shortened 5 inning CG Shutout. The righty touched 95 w/ the fastball showing the usual 4 pitch mix for strikes and whiffs.  Fanned 8 over the 5 innings of work allowing just 1 hit in the outing.  Hit a shot to left driving in two as well, showing off the bat skill too."

It's no wonder this right-handed pitcher ranks as the top pitching prospect in the National rankings (currently No. 2 prospect overall) with such impressive numbers. He also committed to the Vanderbilt where he could continue to baseball career should he not turn pro following his senior year.

In the process of becoming a top high school pitcher, Hernandez has been playing with Perfect Game since 2017 and has impressed at nearly every stop, earning a spot in the inaugural All-Star Game last summer, an event that preceds the All-American Classic and highlights some of the top underclass players in the country.

“I’ve played in a lot of Perfect Game events and it gets better every time,” Hernandez said. “I love it here, there’s a great atmosphere at every tournament.”

One event Hernandez looks forward to hopefully being a part of, a highly looked coveted event for players across the country, is the All-American Classic.

“It’s a dream. You always watch it every year and like to see kids get drafted out of there. It's a great experience. With all the gear and all the great kids that are around you everyday, it is a dream to make that for sure.”

Keep up with Hernandez in the UBC as he continues to compete with his team, BPA, with their next game set for semi-finals action.
