2024 Sunshine Mid-South Showcase (Tues-Wed)
Brian Skrmetti is a 2026 C/RHP with a 6-0 170 lb. frame from Ocean Springs, MS who attends Ocean Springs. Medium build with some present strength and room for more. Primary catcher on defense, comes out of his crouch quickly but tends to stand straight up and not gain ground, compact arm action with a quick exchange, makes accurate throws with some developing arm strength, repeated his actions well. 7.78 runner in the sixty. Right handed hitter, hits from a moderately wide base with his weight pre-loaded to his back side, low hand set, limited weight transfer and lower ha fuse, upper body swing, line drive swing plane, needs to get into his lower half more to help generate bat speed. Took a turn on the mound, has a short catcher's arm stroke from a high 3/4's arm slot, upper body flies open early. Fastball was consistently in the mid-70's, mostly straight with occasional sinking action. Curveball was thrown for strikes with some 12/6 shape and depth, challenged hitters and competed well. Outstanding student.
