2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Blair is a 6-2, 175 lb senior third baseman from Texas with well above average projection for his age and a present tool package that's already pretty good. He ran the 60 in 7.17 and threw 84 mph during infield drills. Blair moves well at third base from side to side and projects as a solid defender at that position. Blair really shined at the plate during the showcase. He went 3-3 one game and made solid contact every time up. Blair has a simple, quick swing with very good use of his hands. He showed gap to gap power with a long double up the alley and looked effortless and in control at the plate. Blair also pitched some at the showcase and shows prospect tools at that position as well. He has a long, loose flowing arm action with solid delivery mechanics for a primary position player. His fastball topped out at 84 mph and he had a nice 71 mph curveball. Just like his approach at the plate, Blair did everything easily with little athletic effort. The best thing about Blair is that he has so much room to keep growing and getting stronger; he evaluates like a 2007 player instead of a 2006 prospect. Blair is also an exceptional student.
