2007 Atlantic Coast Underclass Showcase
Wesley Hatley is a 2009 RHP/1B with a 6'0'', 165 lb. frame from Norwood, NC who attends South Stanley HS. He has a slender, young build that projects very well. We understand that Hatley is also a cross country runner and is already in training for the fall season and he looks like a cross country runner right now. Hatley has very sound pitching mechanics for a young pitcher. He stays balanced well and throws downhill from a low effort high 3/4's release point. His arm works smoothly and projects future velocity gains as he gets stronger. Hatley's fastball was up to 84 mph early and he gained lots of run and sink on it as he began to get tired. All three of Hatley's secondary pitches were distinct and had good quality. His 71 mph slider was sharp and late at times and was a good pitch for him. Hatley's curveball was big with a 12/6 break and will improve as he gets more power in his arm. He had a feel for his change up as well. Hatley has an idea how to pitch now and with his sound mechanics it's a matter of standing back and watching him get stronger. Good Follow. Hatley is also a good student. He was named to the Showcase Top Prospect Team.
