2004 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Eric is a 2005 grad from Eastlake High School in Chula Vista, California. He has a good looking athletic strong body at 6'2" and 185 pounds. He is physically projectable and has a chance to really enhance his tools. Eric is a very good two-way college prospect who has pretty much equal ability and potential both ways. From the mound, he generates very good arm speed with a fluid arm stroke from a 3/4's release point. He threw only from the stretch but had no problem hitting 88 mph and he also threw a good curveball at 68-69 mph. Eric likes to compete and goes after the hitters early in the count and doesn't mess around. At the plate Eric shows a fluid, easy left handed swing with very good extension. He has the ability to create power to all fields. He has a sound, relaxed approach and he makes hitting look easy. He has a chance to put up some power numbers with his bat at the Division I level. One thing that might limit him as a position player is is relative lack of speed, but his arm strength will make up for some of that, especially as a right fielder. We also like Eric's approach to the game, he's a tough competitor with a strong face and demeanor. These types of kids usually work hard to get better. High Ceiling 2-Way player!
