Maximus Bates is a 2025 IF/RHP with a 6-2 165 lb. frame from Vancleave, MS who attends Vancleave. Long and lean athletic build with plenty of room to get stronger. 7.62 runner in the sixty, used his speed well on the bases and was aggressive. Primary middle infielder on defense, plays with some bounce in his step and has active feet, takes good routes to the ball and comes through it well, arm works well and can get some carry when he's on top, has some flair and skill to continue to develop. Left handed hitter, hits from a slightly open stance with a big leg raise and stride into contact, gets off his back side well with a firm front side, big hand load can create some length and timing issues, has good barrel control and pulled some balls hard, projects well as a hitter with additional strength and some simplification. Also pitched, works from the stretch, varies his arm slot from side arm to high 3/4's. Curveball was his best pitch, showed hard spin and real feel for the strike zone, solid 11/5 depth. Fastball sat in the upper 70's and had nice running life at times, threw the fastball mostly from low slots and curveball from higher slots. Excellent student.
