2005 South Top Prospect Showcase
Gaskey is a 6-2, 200 lb senior outfielder from Texas with very good present strength and excellent natural athletic ability. He's really one of the better raw athletes you're going to see when you combine strength, speed, physique and overall actions. Gaskey ran 6.79 in the 60 and runs the bases hard like it's the 7th game of the World Series, which makes his game speed seem even faster. He threw 87 mph from the outfield with very good carry. Gaskey has plus bat speed at the plate with a frenetic, full effort pull oriented swing. Despite the effort in his swing Gaskey made consistent hard contact in the games and took one ball off the left field fence that we all thought was out of the Baylor ballpark off the bat. He projects very big pro level power down the road. Gaskey took the mound and showed raw, high effort pitching mechanics but not surprisingly also threw 88-90 mph with his fastball. He's a rare athlete who can throw 90 off the mound and you really don't think of him as a pitching prospect because of his whole package. Overall, Gaskey is a high effort athlete whose baseball skills are raw but if he can harness his talent he could become a top level collegiate player and a high draft choice down the road. Very high ceiling! Gaskey is also a very good student.
