2005 California Underclass Showcase
Ray Hernandez is a right handed pitcher/infielder from Elk Grove, California with a slim build at 6'0", 160 pounds. He pitches from a 3/4 slot with a fluid even tempo and a long loose arm. He has a slight leg swing and he lands hard which makes him fall off at times. His fastball topped out at 81 mph with decent run, but we have seen him at 85 mph in other events. His curveball is pretty sharp at times with a 12-6 break at 67 mph. He has a good feel for his 70 mph change with sink. Hernandez is a consistent pitcher that will work in and out with accuracy. He has a good mental attitude on the mound and he attacks the hitters on their hands. He is a pull hitter that showed decent power during BP, with a dead pull approach. Good bat speed, but his future is on the hill. He has a projectable body with very good skills, and he should be a high level prospect in 2006. Ray is a good student.
