2004 West Coast Top Prospect Showcase
Tanner is a 2005 grad from Dana Hills High School in Southern California. He has a large frame and a lean build at 6'3" 170 lbs with long arms and legs. He has a very projectable athletic body. Tanner will remind scouts physically of Andy Ashby at the same age. On the mound, Tanner throws with an aggressive, fast paced delivery that will occasionally create some drift. He has very good arm speed and he is very loose out front. Tanner throws from a low 3/4's arm slot and gets very good late sinking life to his fastball. His 88-91 mph fastball velocity is excellent and tells you much of what you want to know about Tanner's prospect status. His lower arm stroke makes him get under his breaking ball at times, creating a flatter sweeping break but Tanner shows some feel in the strike zone for both his breaking ball and change up. We also like Tanner's attitude on the field, he's a happy and involved player who is fun to be around. He's a definite high level prospect both for college and professional ball. He got himself well known at this event.
