C/RHP/3B Tyler Howe: Howe is a senior catcher from Iowa who also shows good talent as a pitcher and third baseman. He has good present strength throughout his body and uses it well with the wood bat in his hands. Howe is a left handed hitter who takes a big load and full, aggressive swing. He’s also a very patient hitter who seems to have the instincts to wait patiently through a count until he gets a fastball where he wants it. Howe’s shown us some power in the past and has the bat speed and instincts to hit at the next level. Defensively, Howe has very solid arm strength that translates into pop times in the 1.90’s during workouts and an 83-85 mph fastball off the mound. A little higher release point on his throws would improve his accuracy, as his throws tent to tail into the runner at second base. We’ve only seen Howe in a closer type role but he seems to have a great demeanor for relief and throws a nice mid-70’s slider to compliment his fastball. He should be able to handle junior college hitters as a pitcher at least. Overall, Howe has a nice varied collection of skills that play well at the college level.
