Jose Layer is a 2016 OF with a 6-1 175 lb. frame from San Juan, PR who attends Colegio Angel David. Large, athletic frame with long limbs and a lean, quick-twitch build that projects with additional strength added to frame. Strong runner, posted a 6.88 60-yard dash. Primary outfielder, loose and fluid actions to the ball play in game, long strides, fields the ball out front and works through the ball well, gets on top of throws with present arm strength and lots of accuracy and carry out of hand. Righthanded hitter, starts with a wide base and a high hand and back elbow set in the box. Loads weight on backside before coming to ball, line drive swing plane with interesting bat speed through the zone and projects for more with additional strength. Loose swing with extension out front, flashed strength to pull side and had no trouble handling velocity. Named to Caribbean Top Prospect List. Good student.
