Brent Brewer is a 2006 shortstop/outfielder from Fairburn, GA with a very athletic looking body at 6-2, 190 lbs. He strongly resembles former Cincinnati Red OF Eric Davis physically and toolwise. Brewer is an outstanding runner with very quick twitch actions. He ran the 60 in 6.28 and was 4.19 down to first base from the right side. Brewer has played extensively at both shortstop and in the outfield. At shortstop he has very athletic actions, very good range and enough arm strength for the position. His hands and release are still on the raw side. He has all the tools to be an outstanding centerfielder should he end up there. Offensively, Brewer has outstanding bat quickness and the ball explodes off his bat. He hit a line drive double off the left field wall that got there before the left fielder had a chance to take more than a few steps. Brewer has gone through a couple of phases during the past year where he has changed his hitting mechanics, so he's still figuring out his approach, but he has the raw tools to be an offensive force. Overall, he's one of the top couple of athletes in the 2006 class and should create lots of draft interest.
