Joseph Connington is a 2019 LHP/1B with a 6-3 160 lb. frame from Fairfield, NJ who attends West Essex High School. Large, athletic frame with square shoulders and long limbs, highly projectable with room to fill throughout moving forward. Ran a 5.27 40-yard dash. Primary lefthanded pitcher, begins delivery with a short side step moving into a high leg, short and closed stride down the mound with plant foot. Full arm action through the back working to a three-quarters release point. Incorporates lower half well, occasionally gets too quick with delivery. Fastball topped out at 76 mph, shows short sinking life at times and worked best when pitching to arm side. Showed both a curveball and slider; slider is better of the two and can mix it more often with tight spin and served as a chase pitch up to 68 mph. Similar full arm action from first base, short steps off the bag with smooth actions, controls body well and shows clean transfer, accurate across. Lefthanded hitter, begins with an open and upright stance in the box with a high hand set and back elbow at the plate. Balanced set up and swing, full stroke through the zone with a linear path, looks to get extended and hit the ball out front. Pull side approach, consistent contact off the barrel, projectable bat speed with added strength. Very good student.
