2020 California Workout Camp (Saturday)
Cody Lemler is a 2023 2B/RHP, MIF, IF, OF with a 5-9 155 lb. frame from Redlands, CA who attends Citrus Valley HS. Cody is an emerging top flight player who shows skill at a couple of positions and a sound ability to swing the bat. In addition to his noted ability on the diamond, Cody is also a standout in the classroom. He ran a 7.44 60 yard dash. A primary second baseman, Cody is gifted. His feet and glove really work well. He is quick and easy to position. He fields out front and funnels on the move. He transitions well to a very quick trigger. His 78 mph throwing velocity is commendable and his tosses across the diamond are firm and true. Cody also took his turn on the mound where he showed solid fundamental ability. Even though his future lies on the infield, he shows he has the right idea on the hill. He utilizes a short and compact arm stroke. His operation is very simple and he repeats it well. He is a strike thrower and pitches off his well commanded 76-79 mph fastball that he works to both edges and he keeps down in the zone. His 66 mph slider is more of a hybrid breaker as it takes the shape of a traditional curveball every now and then. Cody obviously has a clue about pitching, but his skill at 2B and his ability to swing the stick make him far too valuable to cubby-hole as a pitcher. Cody really excels with a bat in his hands. He is balanced at the ready. His approach is very quiet and he loads easily. His head stays noticeably still as he triggers. He has great feel for the barrel and loudly impacts the ball on contact. He has a pure swing path and shows consistent gap to gap pop. His swing will allow him to add power as his career continues. There is a lot to like about this young player's game. He has a quality about his actions that will only allow him to get better. His body language tells many that the game is important to him. Big future for Cody.
