Amar Tsengeg is a 2022 RHP/IF with a 6-2 185 lb. frame from College Station, TX who attends College Station HS. Long and lean, with a sinewy muscle make-up, Amar is an emerging athlete with certain current ability and definite future potential. In addition to his noticeable abilities on the field, Amar is also a recognized student-athlete and scholar. He ran a 7.76 60 yard dash. A primary pitcher, Amar shows a solid, plus-average, four pitch mix that should only improve with added strength and experience at a higher level. His quirky and deceptive operation is made even better by his ability to hide the ball behind his head and shoulder. He gives the hitter a lot to look at with higher his knee lift, lower half action, and cross-fire delivery. It is hard for hitters to track the baseball coming out of his hand and makes his 77-82 mph fastball appear to jump at the plate. His heater shows both impressive arm side run and sink. He mixes in a tantalizing 62 mph curveball that has 12/6 break and truly gets/keeps hitters off balance. His 11/5 breaking 72 mph slider is thrown with FB arm speed. Amar shows an ability to make it cutter-like and have late, short break or to have the traditional sweeping slider look. His 74 mph tumbling change-up is a mature pitch that he tunnels out of the fastball window and throws with fastball arm quickness. Amar has a great feel for pitching and as he continues to grow his game, he will only improve his potential on the mound. Amar also took his turn on the infield and did quite well. Although his future unquestionably lies on the mound, Amar showed sound fundamental ability on the dirt. His footwork is consistent. His glove is soft and plays well. His 75 mph velocity on his throws is plus average and his ability to throw from various arm slots makes his infield action more impressive. At the plate, Amar is a contact-first type hitter. He has some looseness in his hands which allows for consistent bat quickness and an ability to get his barrel on plane and through contact consistently. He shows solid ability to be on time and to drive the ball with force. There might be some raw power evolving in his offensive game, also. Amar has the mental make-up and fundamental base to elevate his game. Added strength will be the best indicator that his game is ready for the next level.
