2006 California Uncommitted Showcase
Michael Beltran is a 2007 MIF with a 6'0'', 160 lb. frame from Lakewood CA, who attends St. John Bosco HS. Selected as a Top 10 prospect at this event. Shortly after this event, Beltran signed with the University of Utah, who was present at the event. So now Beltran will enter the spring hoping to impress the pro scouts in his area. He brings a well-rounded game and high ability level to the table, including some very good tools. Offensively Beltran is a top third of the order hitter. He has fast, strong hands and a quick bat. He is short to the ball and has a line drive stroke. Beltran showed the ability to handle good velocity too. He runs well and will get his share of infield hits, but also has some gap power and possibly more in the future. Defensively Beltran is a very solid playmaker. He has soft hands and flows to and through the ball well, showing the ability to make plays on the move. His arm action is easy andit works at all the infield spots. His feel for defense should allow him to stay at shortstop, though his raw arm strength may eventually move him to 2nd base.
