2007 World Showcase
Jonathan Rodriguez is a 2007 3B/1B with a 6'1'', 205 lb. frame from San Juan PR, who attends Padre Rufo HS. He has a strong, mature body with surprising looseness and overall life. Rodriguez was one of the pleasant surprises of the showcase and is a very good prospect. He can really swing the bat and shows the ability not only to generate top level bat speed but also to square up on the ball consistently. He's a patient hitter who loads and waits well and has lift in his swing. He turned around a 89 mph fastball during game action and hit a long home run, but also showed advanced hitting ability in other at bats. Rodriguez has good straight away speed at 7.20 and nice arm strength. He has the tools to play third base at the next level but will need lots of work with his footwork and quickness. He has also played some first base in the past. Rodriguez's bat is going to keep him in the line up. He is a very good student and should be followed closely this spring.
