Carlos Marte is a 2018 SS with a 5-11 165 lb. frame from Elizabeth, NJ who attends Elizabeth High School. Medium, athletic frame with a lean, projectable build and quick-twitch muscle to frame, room to fill out. Ran a 6.90 60-yard dash. Primary middle infielder, loose defensive actions and shows quickness to footwork, fields the ball out front, works through backhand well, short and quick arm action, gets on top of throws well with carry across, quick actions charging in. Also pitched, full arm action through the back, shows smoothness and has ability to work to either side of plate with fastball, topped out at 81 mph. Lands slightly closed with front foot, able to create angle to fastball, generates deception with changeup and shows solid fading life. Righthanded hitter, begins with a wide, even stance a high hand set in the box. Line drive swing plane and generates nice bat speed and extension through the zone with line drive contact coming off the barrel. Loose hands and sees the ball well, quick path with solid feel for barrel and consistent mechanics, has feel to use all fields and can turn on inner half pitch.
