James Benson is a 2027 LHP with a 6-8 220 lb. frame from Lemont, IL who attends St. Laurence. Extra tall and big build with tons of physical projection remaining. Has a small turn and side step into his delivery with a belt high leg raise, low 3/4's arm slot with some energy at release, will drop down to side arm at times, deceptive mechanics with his arm slot and length. Fastball topped out at 82 mph, has been up to 85 at PG events, does a good job of getting his fastball to both sides of the plate, lots more velocity there in the future. Slider comes out of the same slot as the fastball and uses it well to back foot right handed hitters. Landed his mid-70's change up consistently and repeated his arm speed and release well on the pitch. Huge physical projection, just waiting for the velocity to start ticking up. Excellent student with a commitment to TCU. Named to the PG World Showcase Top Prospect List.

Swing Efficiency™
Swing Efficiency™ is a score from 0-100 based on how fast you move your body compared to other players of a similar height and weight. Our library of over 10,000 hitters shows that for a given body type, higher swing efficiencies generate higher exit velos. PG All-American Arjun Nimmala may only weigh 170 lbs, but he can still hit 103MPH off a tee thanks to his elite Swing Efficiency™.
