Alex Vrantsis is a 6-1, 230 lb senior right handed pitcher from Canada with a thick and flexible Bob Wickman type body. He shows very good arm strength, throwing 83-86 mph steadily from a 3/4 to overhand release point. He gets good tailing action on his fastball most of the time and will throw an effective 2-seam fastball at 81 mph that will get ground balls. Vrantsis throws a 75 mph power curveball that some will call a slurve that has a sharp break to it that's more downward than most slurves and has good velocity. He also threw a 74 mph change up. Vrantsis' stuff is much better when he stays at the 3/4's release point; he gets both better velocity and better action to his pitches than when he come from over the top. He does tend to go overhand often, especially from the stretch, and his coaches say they are working on helping make this adjustment to only 3/4's. Vrantsis has the arm strength and breaking ball to be a solid college pitcher.
