2004 Underclass National Showcase
Emmanuel Escalona -- Escalona is a smaller, compact athlete with some very good tools. His hitting approach includes waiting out counts, bunting (twice at a showcase, which is very rare), hitting the ball on the ground and running the bases aggressively. He also shows good bat speed and some power potential. Escalona’s first step is very quick and he’s a fast runner underway as well. The 7 flat he ran on the slow track in Ft Myers could easily convert to 6.7 or better. Escalona showed good arm strength, throwing 83 from the outfield during workouts. He also threw 2 innings from the mound, topping out at 80 mph on his fastball and showing a smooth, easy arm action and a strong ability to throw strikes. Emmanuel is a very good student who will contribute in a big way at the college level.
