2005 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Eric Harpring is a 6-0, 165 switch hitting outfielder from Indiana. He ran the 60 in 7.25 and threw 75 mph during outfield drills. Harpring was one of the defensive stars of the showcase. He plays shallow and shows very good instincts and gets good jumps on balls. While he didn't have the strongest arm at the event, Harpring has a very quick release and very accurate arm. He threw 3 runners out in one game, then threw another out the next game. At the plate, Harpring hits out of a wide stance with a quick, line drive swing from both sides of the plate. He showed the ability to make solid contact and move the ball around the field. More strength will mean more power and more ability to get the ball up the gaps. He uses his speed well on the bases. Harpring profiles as a leadoff/top of the order type of hitter. He's a good all around ball player who likes to play and has fun. He's also an outstanding student.
