2003 Western Underclass Showcase
Larson not only was one of the youngest players at the Showcase but he was one of the best prospects. He has very advanced physical tools and baseball skills for a catcher who won’t turn 16 until near the end of this school year. Larson has a multitude of quick twitch muscles and does everything with speed and balance. He’s a 7.14 runner with quick feet, a quick release and a quick bat. Larson’s pop times were 1.94-2.01 in drills and not much slower in games. He has a nice swing with very good extension for future power potential and already looks and plays much stronger than his listed 165 pound weight. With Larson it’s just going to be a matter of maintaining his quickness as he gets stronger. All the tools and hustle are there for him to be an outstanding prospect down the road. Francis is an outstanding student with a very bright future in baseball.
