Gavin Weston is a 2028 SS/RHP with a 5-10 140 lb. frame from Hampshire, IL who attends Hampshire. Wiry high waisted young build with the beginnings of some present strength. Right handed hitter, sets up in a slightly open stance with a short hanging front leg timer, stayed on time well, short to the ball with some extension through contact, handled the barrel well with line drive contact to all fields, good base swing to grow into as he continues to get stronger. 7.59 runner in the sixty. Primary shortstop on defense, plays tall and tends to wait back on the ball, fielded the ball cleanly and had a easy exchange and release, some developing arm strength, showed some internal clock and feel for his actions on the move. Took a turn on the mound, works from a full wind up with some back side collapse over the rubber, compact arm action with a 3/4's arm slot, best results when he slowed down his delivery and worked deliberately. Fastball was in the mid-70's and topped out at 77mph with some run and sink, threw his fastball to both sides of the plate. Also threw a sweeping slider that had some spin and depth and showed good pitchability.
