McLain Thoreson is a 2009 RHP/1B with a 6'2'', 170 lb. frame from Knoxville, TN who attends Farragut HS. He has a long, slender athletic frame that projects well. Thoreson throws from a good on line delivery with good energy to the plate. His arm action is short and compact and he repeats it well through a high 3/4's release point. Thoreson's fastball topped out at 82 mph with some occasional cutting action. He spotted his fastball very well. Thoreson's 70 mph curveball had tight spin and a sweeping 10/4 type of break. His change up was a nice pitch as well. Thoreson was efficient with his pitches and had an idea on the mound and projects to improve his velocity as he gets stronger. Thoreson plays first base when he's not pitching and can swing the bat pretty well. He hits from a tall stance, slightly open, with an aggressive upper cut swing. Thoreson generates some bat speed and has some power that should keep improving. His aggressiveness is a plus. Thoreson is also a very good student.
