Merrik Cornelius is a 2029 RHP/MIF/OF with a 6-0, 170 lb. frame from Danville, KY who attends Boyle County High School. He has a medium, athletic build with long limbs, present strength, and room for more as he matures. He is a 6.88 runner in the sixty. Right-handed pitcher who works from a full windup off the third base side of the rubber with a small side step into a belt-high leg lift. He has a deep, stabbing arm path with an inverted elbow lead in the back, throwing from an over-the-top slot. The fastball sits in the low 80s and peaked at 82 mph, showing some late ride through the zone. It comes from a lower release height, giving it a unique angle. He also mixes in a rolling slider in the low-70s that has some effectiveness as the outing goes on. Decent spin on the breaking ball, but he landed it more consistently and missed barrels as the outing extended. There’s some effort and awkwardness in the arm action, but he consistently stays around the zone and competes well. He shows plenty of projection in the outfield. Long-limbed and lean, he uses a double-tap timing mechanism into an abrupt arm action and attacks the ball aggressively. His throwing action is violent and raw, and he’ll benefit from improved body control and consistency. There's some natural arm strength here. From the infield, he is primarily suited for a corner infield spot due to limited range and stiffness. He shows a higher slot with awkwardness in his footwork and overall movement. Works through the ball well, but doesn't flash much lateral agility. Right-handed hitter with a wide setup and a small rocking leg lift. He loads his hands deep, creating some length in the swing, but shows good bat speed with a flat barrel through the zone. Rotational hitter with pull-side ground balls and flares to the opposite field. Showed some power late in the round. When synced up, he’s at his best working middle-of-field with consistent contact and developing strength. Very good student. Named to the 14U Ohio Valley All-State Games Top Prospect List.
