John Housey is a 2006 right handed pitcher/infielder from Hollywood, FL with a lean wiry build at 6-3, 175 lbs. Housey has a busy delivery with lots of arms and legs flying around in front of the hitter that adds deception, but his arm works smoothly from a high 3/4's release point. His fastball topped out at 87 mph in Atlanta with some running action. Housey showed the ability to change speeds and breaks on his curveball, throwing it up to 73 mph with some sharpness on some occasions and slower with a bigger sweeping break at others. Housey has a good feel for pitching and hitters don't seem to get good swings off him. We hadn't seen Housey play as a position player much in the past but were very impressed with his athleticism and tools and want to see more. He's a switch hitter with a very sound, powerful swing, especially from the right side. He has bat speed and power potential that haven't been fully tapped yet! Housey also is a 7.10 runner who threw 83 mph across the diamond and showed soft, sure hands in the field. Housey is a very good student who has signed with Miami.
