2005 Pitcher/Catcher Indoor Showcase
Andrew Scolaro is a 5'7" athlete from Zionsville, Indiana, with good present strength and plenty of quick twitch muscles. He listed himself as a primary right handed pitcher, but told us that he knows that he might have a better chance to play at the next level as a middle infielder. However, Scolaro does have lots of talent on the mound. He has a compact delivery with a compact arm circle, and although he throws with some effort, he maintains good balance and direction to the plate and showed the ability to throw consistent strikes. Scolaro pitched mostly in the 82-83 mph range with his fastball and topped out at 86 mph on the gun. He threw a 68-73 mph breaking ball with an 11/5 break that had good depth on occasion and also threw a couple of 72 mph change ups. Scolaro also showed his ability at the plate, and he can flat out hit. He has an advanced approach with quiet hands, a short stride, and a compact swing. Scolaro has very good bat speed with a line drive swing plane. There is strength in his swing, and he has a great knowledge of the strike zone. Scolaro is a definite hitting prospect who could help a team at the next level on the mound as well. He is a good student.
