Kawika Emsley-Pai is a 2007 switch-hitting catcher/outfielder from Jackson HS, residing in Bothell, WA. Emsley-Pai has an average athletic type build with a strong, lively 5'11" 185 lb. frame. His versatility, along with his considerable skills had him ranked #55 among PG National Top 100 position players. When it comes to players that bring a lot to the table, Emsley-Pai is one of the players in that discussion. He not only is a very good catcher and a quality hitter from both sides of the plate, but he is athletic and can play all over the field. From both sides of the plate Emsley-Pai is a pretty similar hitter, with a quick bat and lively hands. He sprays line drives to all fields and has good bat control, making him a good bet to hit for high average. Emsley-Pai also has developing power, particularly to the pull side, from both sides of the plate. There is very little effort in anything that Emsley-Pai does on the field, and that includes swinging the bat. As some of the bats level off this spring and into the future, he is one player that will continue to get better and better. Behind the plate Emsley-Pai is also an exciting player. He can play multiple positions but catcher is where he really stands out. His arm is strong and quick and his feet are excellent. Emsley-Pai sits low and presents a very nice target to throw to, while also being a very good receiver. His block/control ability is very good and he has strong catch/throw skills. Currently Emsley-Pai is a very quality defensive player and in the hands of higher level catching coaches, he has a chance to be special. He ran 4.61 home/1st and posted a 7.02 60 yard time. At this time Emsley-Pai looks like he is college bound but as an athletic, strong armed, switch-hitting catcher, he certainly will be followed closely by the Northwest area scouts.
