2003 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Shelton was an easy pick as the top defensive infielder in Chapel Hill. He has smooth hands and feet and solid average arm strength at third base and was especially good at charging the ball and making a confident, accurate throw. Shelton could definitely play shortstop at the college level but he might be a step slow for that position professionally. A switch-hitter, Shelton will have to gain strength and bat speed to become the same type of factor offensively as he is defensively. His swing right handed appears much more confident, with better bat speed and more solid contact. He does project to get stronger so he could end up being a big draft prospect out of college. Kyle is also a good student.
