Ross Hubbard is a 2006 catcher/first baseman from Denton, TX with a big strong build at 6-4, 205 lbs and long legs and arms. Hubbard has good speed for his size at 7.25 in the 60 and 4.64 to first base. He shows good footwork behind the plate in blocking balls and shifting. Hubbard has plenty of arm strength for the next level at 76 mph and had a best pop time of 1.97. He tends to stand up before throwing and can cut time off his throws with a more compact release. Hubbard's swing mechanics are somewhat similar to what he does when he throws. He sets up with high hands and has an unusual coil and load, which leaves him long and occasionally late to the ball. When he gets the bat going he has very good bat speed, though, and extended through the ball well with his weight shifting to his front side. Hubbard has some lift and pull to his swing but also did a good job in the games of hitting the ball solidly to the oppposite field. Hubbard is an outstanding student who has signed with Kentucky.
