2003 South Top Prospect Showcase
Hood is a right-hander who showed good mechanics and threw three quality pitches. There's a bit of a hitch in his arm action, but overall he's very tension free. His fastball ranged between 80-84 mph in Waco. His curveball showed a nice 2-plane path and he also showed a good working splitty at 71 mph. His frame is a good one at 6 foot 3 and 185 pounds. His mechanics are fairly solid and there should be improvements in his velocity naturally over the next year. The curveball had a nice tilt and the split acted as a change-up with a more abrupt sink. He has a large amount of potential on the hill and even showed ability as an outfielder. Ryan is a good student.
