John Melson is a 2014 SS/RHP with a 5-10 150 lb. frame from Marietta, GA who attends Lassiter. He is a switch hitting short stop with an athletic build. From the left side of the plate he has a short swing path to the ball, with a narrow stance and an aggressive approach at the plate. From the right side of the plate he showed quick hands with a line drive middle of the field swing, has a loose easy swing and makes solid contact. Has a quick release at short stop with an accurate arm, a good first step and plays through the ball well. He throws from a sidearm arm slot on the mound with run and sink on his fastball. He works down in the zone with a good straight change which he maintains his arm speed on, and fields his position well. Is an outstanding student.
