2004 Midwest Top Prospect Showcase
Scott Schieve is a senior right handed pitcher from Kansas. He looks a bit more physical and stronger than his listed 6'1", 175 lbs., and is a good overall athlete who runs a 7.15-60, and swings the bat well. Schieve throws from a standard ¾ release point with an on-line delivery and a quick arm stroke. He maintains his velocity very well in the 84-86 mph range and gets good sink on his fastball. Schieve showed good command of his fastball in Cedar Rapids, as he usually does, and isn’t afraid to pitch inside. In fact, Schieve faced 9 batters at the showcase and struck out 4 while inducing four ground balls back to the mound, most on jam shots. Schieve is primarily a fastball pitcher as his curveball is soft at 59-62 mph, although it has a fairly big break. He might consider a slider in the future. Schieve’s pitching knowledge, arm strength and athletic ability should guarantee him a good Division 1 school.
