2005 Southeast Top Prospect Showcase
Spencer Shelton is a 2006 RHP/SS with a 6'4'', 180 lb. frame from Fayetteville, Georgia, who attends Starr's Mill High School. He is a lean and athletic player with long limbs and good projection. On the mound he throws from a low 3/4 arm slot with a slinging arm action. He has a simple motion and he finishes his pitches well. Shelton has a loose arm that produces a fastball that topped out at 80 mph, and it is easy to project him to throw harder in the future. He has a very deceptive changeup with late action that he throws at 70 mph and he maintains his arm speed on the pitch. He also mixes in a solid breaking ball at 68 mph giving him three solid pitches. At the plate he is a right handed hitter with raw power in his swing. He hit a home run to left center field, and hit several other balls very hard. He is a good hitter with power projection. Defensively he shows his solid arm strength from the shortstop position with nice actions and body control. Shelton is a two-way prospect with good upside, and he is an excellent student as well.
