Willie Rios is a 2014 LHP/1B/OF with a 6-0 180 lb. frame from Waterford, CT who attends St Bernard HS. Medium athletic frame, good present strength. Medium athletic build, good lower half strength. Athletic on line delivery, compact arm action, mid 3/4's arm slot, hides the ball well, repeats well. Fastball to 92 mph, good fastball life with nice 2-seam darting life at times, works at the knees consistently with his fastball and can throw to both sides of the plate. Tight slider spin with 2-plane biting action, softer curveball with some 1/7 depth, shows a feel for his change up. Four-pitch starter stuff with command from the left side. Good athlete who moves well around the first base bag, soft hands on picks. Switch hitter, simple no shift rotational approach from both sides, bit better bat speed from the left side. Good student, verbal commitment to Maryland.
