Cooper is a 5-11 junior catcher from Virginia with broad shoulders and some strength in his legs. He hits out of quiet approach with high hands and a controlled leg lift trigger and shows some strength in his swing. Watching Cooper for 2 games shows the trouble in evaluating hitters in game action. In one game Cooper struck out three times, although he really battled one at bat against a top prospect pitcher. In the other game he laced a couple of balls right on the nose and showed his strength and power. Cooper’s swing is pretty sound and we see him improving as he gets stronger. As a catcher, Cooper’s abilities are raw. He’s an upright catcher and has a long, slinging arm action that doesn’t generate good arm speed. He’s also played some first base before. Cooper is a 7.67 runner in the 60. He’s also an excellent student.
