2005 National Showcase
Christopher Pelaez is a 2006 outfielder/first baseman from Miami, FL with a medium build that shows good solid strength at 6-1, 195 lbs. Peleaz ran 7.10 in the 60 and threw 78 mph during outfield drills. He had thrown 89 mph the week before at the Sunshine East showcase so we don't know whether he came up with a tender arm or was just nervous on the big league field, but he has a cannon arm. Pelaez shows good range in the outfield as well. At the plate, Peleaz generates serious bat speed from the left side of the plate. He hits from a wide stance with a short stride and has the strength to hit the ball deep in the zone. He shows plus raw power and the ball jumps off his bat when he stays leveraged. We imagine Pelaez just overpowers the ball with metal bats with his strength and bat speed. Pelaez is a good student, too.
