David Mata is a 2017 RHP with a 6-0 195 lb. frame from Cape Coral, FL who attends Island Coast HS. Strong broad shouldered build, long arms. Long extended arm action, high leg raise start, high 3/4's arm slot, has a quick loose arm, well paced delivery, will open early and fall off to the first base side causing his arm to drag and his pitches to sail up arm side. Fastball topped out at 84 mph early, has best command and movement at lower velocities, gets nice cutting action at times glove side. Secondary pitches are still young in their development, soft curveball with a slower arm, tends to choke his change up. Has the arm strength to continue to develop with adjustments and instruction. Named to the Showcase Top Prospect Team.
