Austin Mason is a 2009 C/SS with a 5'10'', 160 lb. frame from Pensacola, FL, who attends Tate HS. Was named to the Top Prospect Team at the event. Mason is a young player with a slender and athletic build. Defensively he has solid arm strength from behind the plate for his age. He shows quickness that allows him to block balls in the dirt, as well as helping on his throws to second base. His quick release helped record consistent pop times under 2.00, with a best of 1.84. He has nice footwork, and looks good behind the plate. Offensively he is a legitimate switch hitter who hits using a no stride approach. He attacks the ball and is aggressive in the box. Mason shows hand quickness that allows him to get the bat through the zone well. He is a line drive hitter that will consistently put the ball in play. Mason stays short to the ball and keeps his hands inside allowing him to hit to all fields. He showed good hustle at this event, and he is a good student.
