Cooper Hjerpe is a 2019 LHP/1B with a 6-0 160 lb. frame from Capay, CA who attends Woodland. Medium frame with a lean, athletic build. Frame projects for additional strength while maintaining athleticism. Ran a 7.34 sixty-yard dash. Primary left handed pitcher with a simple side step to medium leg lift delivery. Stays tall on back side at gather and utilized lower half well while showing drop and drive actions. Tends to land at a slightly closed position on front side generating some crossfire at release. Long arm circle at take back and released from a loose, easy three-quarters arm slot. Fastball jumped out of hand well producing heavy running action to arm side with some sink in the low to mid 80's, topped at 86 miles per hour. Maintains arm speed with a slider offering that flashed tight spin with good sweep to glove side. Flashed an occasional curveball that showed quality depth when staying on top of offering at extension. Held velocity well through each inning of work and consistently located all three pitches to each edge of the plate. Also worked out defensively from first base showing athletic actions while centering and moving to the baseball. Clean glove actions while funneling from a slightly deeper position. Released from a three-quarters slot producing carry across the infield, topped at 83 miles per hour. Left handed hitter with a crouched, even stance and sweeping front side trigger. Shifts into contact with linear lower half actions. Simple, direct path to contact with an uphill barrel plane through extension. Stays balanced throughout but attacks the baseball aggressively. Consistently worked between the gaps but flashed the barrel control to work to all fields with ease. Very good student. Committed to Oregon State. Named to the 2017 NorCal Showcase Top Prospect List.
